Secretary General Rusnák confirmed the Charter's interest and readiness to develop further the organisation's relations with Tajikistan. He stated that the Energy Charter welcomed Tajikistan's intentions and that it would provide support in order for the country to achieve energy security and sustainability.
Over the course of 19-20 July, the Secretary General also held meetings with several high-level officials from the Tajik government. In their discussions with Mr. Sherali Gul, Minister of Energy and Industry, the parties looked at the possibilities of enhancing the cooperation between the Charter and Tajikistan. During the Secretary General's meeting with Mr. Makhmoudjon Sobirov, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, they covered a wide range of energy cooperation issues and discussed the prospects of energy cooperation in the region, including with Afghanistan and Pakistan. Mr. Sobirov highlighted the importance of diversifying Tajikistan's energy supply sources and the great potential of renewables in meeting the country's energy needs and in its sustainable development.
