![]() | On 10 June 2013, Secretary General Rusnák held consultations with Mr. Anatoliy Yanovskiy, Russian Deputy Minister of Energy and Vice-Chairman of the Energy Charter Conference, at the offices of the Energy Charter Secretariat. Amb. Rusnák and Mr. Yanovskiy discussed the latest developments in the process of Energy Charter modernisation, as well as further cooperation between Russia and the Secretariat within the Energy Charter Process. |

Secretary General Rusnák met with Mr. Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, Minister for Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Cyprus on 7 June 2013 in Luxembourg. Minister Lakkotrypis and the Secretary General discussed the preparations for the 24th Meeting of the Energy Charter Conference to be held in Nicosia on 9-10 December 2013. Minister Lakkotrypis stated that "everything possible to make it a successful meeting of the Conference will be done". The Conference meeting will focus on the fifteen years of enforcement of the Energy Charter Treaty's investment protection provisions.

On 4-5 June 2013, Secretary General Rusnák visited the capital of Azerbaijan Baku for a series of high-level meetings and to deliver a speech at the 20th Caspian Oil and Gas Conference.
The Secretary General met with Mr. Natiq Aliev, Minister of Industry and Energy, with whom he discussed the results of the recently completed Energy Charter in-depth review of energy efficiency policies of Azerbaijan. Minister Aliev confirmed that improving energy efficiency was one of the country’s main priorities and invited the Energy Charter Secretariat to continue cooperation in this area. The Minister also expressed strong support for the process of Energy Charter modernisation.

On 30 May 2013 Secretary General Rusnák spoke at the 8th International Conference "Energy Dialogue: Russia – European Union. Gas Aspect", organised in Brussels by Eurogas and the Russian Gas Society. The Secretary General's speech focused on the new paradigm of Russia-EU relations within the Energy Charter Process and the opportunities that the Charter offered to the private sector, including Russian companies entering the European energy market.
Secretary General Rusnák spoke at the Workshop on “Energy Transition in Europe: Different Pathways, Same Destination?”, organised by the Italian section of the World Energy Council (WEC) and the energy company Edison on 29 May 2013 in Rome. The workshop was attended by government and corporate officials, academics and energy specialists from France, Germany, UK, Italy and the EU. Participants compared national transition strategies in relation to energy efficiency, investments and competition in the renewable energy sector.
On 28 May 2013, the Energy Charter Strategy Group discussed the way forward with the modernisation of the Energy Charter Process. Under the chairmanship of Mr. Odd Sverre Haraldsen, Director General at the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, delegations from 47 member states and observers debated how the Energy Charter could be adapted to new realities.
